SUSTAIN (Substance Users Society Teaching Advocacy Instead of Neglect)

SUSTAIN (Substance Users Society Teaching Advocacy Instead of Neglect) is a harm reduction peer-led project. We are dedicated to our commitment of reducing stigma, advocating for the human rights of people who use drugs, and empowering individuals to live their best quality of life. We are working together to create a well-supported peer network in Powell River, through discussions, groups, workshops, training, and leadership development. We value lived experience of our peers to inform and guide the SUSTAIN project goals, activities, and outcomes. We focus on overdose awareness and prevention, harm reduction, skill-building, and advocacy.  We connect with community organizations to share information and increase access to support and information about the overdose crisis. We aim to decrease stigma by increasing a sense of belonging and connection between our peers and the larger community.  We are part of Lift Community Services and based out of the Community Resource Centre.
