Amy Vaughan Child and Family Counselling

Amy hasĀ 10 years of experience as a child, youth and family counsellor in a variety of settings, from family counselling with parents struggling to help their child with emotional difficulties, to outreach with at-risk teens. She has been practicing Focusing Oriented Therapy for 4 years. Her passion is to introduce Focusing Oriented Therapy to children and families so they can experience the healing practice of Focusing with each other. Amy has a Master of Counselling degree from Trinity Western University and is accredited as a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling Psychotherapy Association. She completed an Aboriginal Focusing Oriented Therapy certificate program at the Justice Institute of BC and is working towards certification as a Focusing Oriented Therapist.

Amy offers family therapy, and expressive arts and movement therapy. Counselling progresses in such a way that both parents and children learn to listen to their own inner wisdom through body awareness. By connecting with their 'felt sense', parents and children are able to recognize their own needs and emotions and express them. A restored connection with the body makes emotion regulation, and a sense of peace and health possible. Focusing therapy addresses school difficulties, emotional difficulties, substance misuse, self harm and parent-child conflict. It provides a closer connection and tools that families can use long after therapy ends.
